A new sauce is coming to Taco Bell. Even though it’s not doing anything by itself.
The inclusion of Disha Hot, a sauce influenced by the family secret recipe of rapper Omar Apollo, was revealed on Monday by the fast food behemoth.
The combination of “savoury, smoky flavours, capturing the flavours perfected by Omar’s mother in her original recipe” is what makes this unique sauce packet partnership possible, according to Taco Bell. As a kid, Apollo and his siblings would ask for it at special occasions like birthday dinners and milestones.
It goes well with Taco Bell’s curated Disha Hot Discovery Box, which features three sauce packets and other menu favourites, according to Taco Bell. Another option is for true fans to buy the sauce in bottles and use it however they like.
In an interview with Food & Wine, Apollo explained, “Partnering with Taco Bell is incredibly important to me because it allows me to honour my Mexican heritage and give thanks to my mom’s constant love and support by sharing her Disha Hot Sauce recipe with a larger audience.”
He went on to say that this partnership enabled him to do just that. “This collaboration fulfils a long-held dream of bringing my family’s legacy to life, and it resonates deeply with my personal values and artistic identity.”
The two didn’t limit themselves to the sauce, either. A special vinyl record of Apollo’s most recent album, “God Said No,” with liquid infusion by Taco Bell and Disha Hot was also made in celebration of the partnership.
A limited number of these records will be made available to Taco Bell Rewards Members through the Taco Bell app beginning September 24 at 2 p.m. PST.
According to Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer Taylor Montgomery, the partnership came about because Apollo was a part of the company’s “Feed the Beat” program, which connects fans with new music and gives artists $500 in gift cards to Taco Bell so they can have tasty snacks on the go.
“During our time together, we gained a deeper understanding of his background and current circumstances, such as the significance of his family and the selfless acts his parents performed to enable him to follow his dreams,” Montgomery remarked.
“One of Omar’s personal goals was to bring his family’s secret hot sauce, Disha Hot, to more people, and we knew we wanted to help make that a reality.”
The ingredients of this sauce are roasted tomatillos, white vinegar, peppers, onions, tomatoes, lime juice, and a “family-secret spice blend,” according to Taco Bell.
It sounds like it would go great with the Disha Hot Discovery Box, which includes a Crunchy Taco, a Cheesy Gordita Crunch, a Doritos Locos Taco, chips, nacho cheese sauce, and a medium fountain drink.
However, to reiterate, additional sauce can be yours for as little as twenty cents each packet. The sauce will be available to everyone starting Thursday, September 26, but it will first be accessible to Taco Bell Rewards Members starting Tuesday, September 24. However, if you’re a fan, you’d better hoard it because it will only be available “while supplies last.”
“Taco Bell’s support through the ‘Feed the Beat’ program and their embrace of authenticity and the cultural rebels make this partnership feel like a natural fit,” said Apollo.
“I am elated to add Disha Hot to Taco Bell’s menu and continue our family recipe and legacy for fans of both my music and Taco Bell. It’s a win-win for everyone!”
