Many people believe that McDonald’s French fries are the best in the fast-food industry. However, there is no denying that they are one of the most iconic items that have ever been served at a chain restaurant. When customers recently noticed a change to those legendary fried potatoes, they had a lot of things to say about it, which should not come as a surprise to these customers.
In a post that was published on Reddit the previous week, a customer of McDonald’s reported that a location in the Bay Area of San Francisco is now serving large orders of French fries (480 calories) in bags rather than the traditional red cartons. The post featured a picture of the new fry packaging, which is referred to as “Large Fries” but appears to be very similar to the paper bags that McDonald’s already uses for its small fry orders.
Many customers were taken aback by the change, which is not surprising given that McDonald’s has not yet made an official announcement regarding the modification of its large fry containers. Furthermore, many people were concerned that McDonald’s had secretly decreased the quantity of fries that were included in its large orders with the introduction of the new packaging.
“ANY LARGE? This is a falsehood. I am so sorry. On the other hand, the size is printed on the fry bag, so I suppose it is our responsibility to adjust expectations,” a user commented on the post on Reddit said.
“If that’s a large fries I’d hate to know what a small fries looks like,” a different individual complained.
These rumors caused a great deal of outrage among the people who participated in the discussion on Reddit, with some people even going so far as to call for a “boycott” of McDonald’s because of the change.
Others, on the other hand, pointed out that a change in packaging does not necessarily mean that McDonald’s is serving fewer fries in its large orders. Although the post on Reddit did not provide any specific information regarding the dimensions of the bag, the photograph displayed that the new packaging was taller than the box of Big Macs that was placed next to it.
Following our inquiries for additional information regarding the rumored change in packaging and whether or not the new large bags contain fewer fries than the previous red cartons, a representative from McDonald’s did not immediately respond to our inquiries.
Despite the fact that the chain has not yet provided a comment on the new fry containers, it has recently confirmed that other iconic items on the menu, such as the McFlurry, will be receiving new packaging. At the beginning of this month, McDonald’s introduced a new “mini” McFlurry size as well as packaging that is more environmentally friendly for the blended frozen treat.
According to McDonald’s, the new McFlurry cups will bring the company closer to its goal of sourcing one hundred percent of its primary guest packaging (specific disposable products used to package food at McDonald’s restaurants and given to customers in all ordering channels) from renewable, recycled, or certified materials by the end of the year 2025.
