McDonald’s New Mini McFlurry Is Half the Size — With a Lower Price

In an effort to maintain its menu at the forefront of customers’ minds, McDonald’s has been working nonstop each day of the year.

The company started by testing the hamburgers’ quality before releasing them countrywide in 2024 after selling them in 2023 in select regions. After that, it moved on to the topic of size, conducting worldwide trials of the Big Arch burger in its larger format in anticipation of its possible launch in the United States.

Also, in an effort to win over customers who are turned off by the exorbitant pricing of fast food, the business is offering a $5 lunch bargain. In addition, a unique Collector’s Meal with collectible mugs is enticing guests with a nostalgic vibe.

It seems that McDonald’s newest move is to… shrink?

A Mini McFlurry, which is apparently one-third the size of the original one, will be available for purchase at select McDonald’s locations beginning September 10. The product is aimed at people who are looking for a quick snack during the day, as stated in the McDonald’s marketing release.

“Do you have a friend who is constantly asking for ‘just a bite?’?” A Mini McFlurry is a better option than an additional spoon, according to the press release. “Alternatively, the Mini McFlurry would be ideal if you’re in need of a fast afternoon pick-me-up.”

Fast food giant McDonald’s is ramping up its environmental initiatives, which are more than simply extra adorable.

Other advantages of a Mini McFlurry are not mentioned in the press release. The fact that consumers can order as little or as much ice cream as they choose helps reduce food waste, for starters.

Second, for people who are embarrassed by the ever-increasing prices of fast food, it provides an alternative that is less expensive. Furthermore, unlike the original McFlurry, which may appear excessive, a small-format dessert entices customers to add one to their purchases and boost their ticket amount. All limited-edition flavours will also be accessible through the Mini option.

Not only that, but the Mini isn’t the only McFlurry getting an eco-friendly improvement; all sizes are getting upgrades too.

In 2018, McDonald’s pledged to combat climate change by lowering emissions of greenhouse gases, incorporating regenerative agriculture techniques into its supply chain, and increasing its usage of renewable energy sources by 2030.

Among the many ways this is being accomplished is by reducing the use of plastic. This is especially true when it comes to the McFlurry, which has long been served with a thick, rigid plastic spoon that doubles as the spindle for the McFlurry machine while the treat is being made, in addition to a domed plastic lid.

In 2023, a smaller, more conventional plastic spoon was used in their place, which reduced plastic usage and essentially eliminated the spoons. Moving ahead, McDonald’s will also be using a new cup for the McFlurry that does not have a removable cover, just like the original McFlurry and the Mini McFlurry.

As an alternative, the cardboard cup will have four flaps that completely encase the top. “This change will help reduce waste and advance our goal of sourcing 100% of primary guest packaging from renewable, recycled, or certified materials by the end of 2025,” McDonald’s said of the change. A

But there is still one crucial (and realistic) issue to be addressed.

Indonesia and Canada are among the overseas markets where the four-flap cup is already available, so we can assume that the design has been fine-tuned by now. Although, many people are curious about the Mini McFlurry and have a question: Will the mix-ins really incorporate into such a tiny serving of ice cream?
