In the near future, one of the most lasting food brands will undergo a significant transformation. However, not to its constituent parts.
Campbell’s Soup Company made the announcement on Wednesday, during its annual investor call, that it is perhaps in the process of planning to change its name. The company would remove the word “soup” from its appellation and simply become known as The Campbell’s Company.
Mark Clouse, the chief executive officer of the firm, is quoted as saying in a statement that it is a “subtle yet important change” that would better reflect “the full breadth” of the company’s food offering. This information was obtained from the Associated Press. It should be noted, however, that the modification is not yet finalized. In order to determine whether or not the corporation should change its name, the shareholders will be asked to vote.
As the Associated Press noted out, the 155-year-old firm has not been entirely focused on soup for decades, despite the fact that the name change may cause us to feel a little bit of melancholy for nostalgic, nostalgic reasons. Goldfish, Prego and Rao’s sauces, and goods from Pepperidge Farm are some of the other products that are included in its portfolio.
According to FoodDive, Campbell’s soup lineup accounts for only a quarter of the company’s overall sales, which is a fall of forty percent from 2017. On the other hand, the snack ranges account for almost fifty percent of the company’s sales.
The statement was made by Clouse during the ceremony, as reported by FoodDrive. “We will always love soup, and we will never take our eye off of this critical business,” he expressed. However, in the present day, we are so much more than soup.
In the event that investors decide to vote in favor of the name change, Campbell’s will not be the only company to feel this way. Dunkin’ Donuts altered its name to just Dunkin’ in 2018, and Krispy Kreme did the same thing, removing the word “doughnuts” from its name in 2021. Both of these changes were brought to light by Food In Canada.
Additionally, Domino’s removed the word “Pizza” from its official name in the year 2012, while Starbucks changed its name significantly from its initial iteration, transitioning from Starbucks Coffee, Tea, and Spices to just Starbucks during the course of its history.
Also, according to Today, this would not be the first time that Campbell’s has changed its name. This is something that has been documented. The Campbell Soup Company was once known as Anderson & Campbell, but in 1922, it changed its name to Campbell Soup Company. If it does decide to change its name once more, there is a good chance that it will continue to be successful.
