When making homemade sushi rolls, try using bananas instead of raw salmon. Banana Sushi Rolls are both gorgeous and adaptable.
They may not be sushi, but they certainly look like it! Ideal for nibbling or serving as an appetizer to keep your visitors satisfied until the main event. Thankfully, peanut, almond, or cashew butter on bananas is a classic combination.
The rice crispy cereal-rolled banana sushi pieces have a tempura-like texture. What more could you desire than an enjoyable culinary activity and excellent food?
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe bananas (peeled)
- 1 cup sushi rice (or any sticky rice)
- 1 ½ cups water (for cooking rice)
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp butter
- 4-6 sheets of nori (seaweed)
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
- Nutella or peanut butter (for spreading)
- Fresh fruits (like strawberries or mango for topping, optional)
- Honey or chocolate syrup (for drizzling, optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Cook the Rice
- Rinse the sushi rice until the water runs clear.
- In a medium saucepan, combine rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for about 15-20 minutes or until all the water is absorbed.
- Mix the rice vinegar and sugar together, then stir it into the cooked rice. Set aside to cool.
Step 2: Prepare the Crispy Rice
- In a non-stick pan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Spread a layer of rice (about ½ inch thick) into the pan. Press down gently with a spatula.
- Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until it forms a golden crispy crust. Set aside to cool slightly.
Step 3: Assemble the Sushi Rolls
- Lay a sheet of nori on a flat surface, shiny side down.
- Spread a thin layer of Nutella or peanut butter over the nori.
- Place the peeled banana in the center of the sheet.
- Roll up the nori tightly around the banana, pressing the edge with a bit of water to seal the roll.
- Slice the roll into 1-inch pieces.
Step 4: Add the Crispy Rice
- Place the crispy rice pieces on top of each sushi roll or serve them on the side.
- Optionally, sprinkle with sesame seeds, drizzle honey or chocolate syrup, and add fresh fruits for extra flavor.
Enjoy!
